What happens when the creator of Yakuza attempts to make a third-person shooter? The end result is Binary Domain.

Yes, it is “yet another squad-based shooter in a sea of similar titles”–but could the story help propel it to something more? Binary Domain tells an anime-inspired tale of a future where humans and robots are becoming increasingly indistinguishable.

Gamers will be able to get a taste of Sega’s shooter this week as a demo goes live on PlayStation Network later today, and on Xbox Live tomorrow. The playable trial will offer two levels in the beginning of the game. You’ll be able to try out the “Consequence System,” a feature that allows you to influence teammates by “using voice recognition in combat and non-combat situations.”

The full game will be available at retail on February 28th.
