If you aren’t hip to the designer board and card game scene, you may not have heard of Dominion. The deck-building game has won various accolades and spawned plenty of imitators, all the while regularly pumping out expansion deck sets to keep fans engaged. If that sounds like the perfect fodder for a video game adaptation, you’re right. Also, stop reading my dream journal.

Rio Grande Games founder Jay Tummelson has announced that an official iOS version of the game is on its way. Best of all, it will be available in only a few weeks.

A thread on Board Game Geek (via Touch Arcade) shows Tummelson stepping into clear up some misunderstandings over the various unofficial iOS apps that ape the game. Apparently, until the official version is published, he’s fine with it.

“Over the past two years, RGG has been approached by a number of people asking to do a ‘casual’ and free app for Dominion,” he said. “In such cases, we have usually said yes with the stipulation that once the ‘official’ Dominion app became available that the free app would be removed.” That’s awfully charitable, but more interesting is a statement that follows. “In any case, as long as it is free, it is allowed, at least for a few weeks until the licensed app becomes available.”

A few weeks, you say? Hot diggity. If you want to practice up before the official version hits, the fan app that led to the revelation is available now in the App Store for free. It’s titled “Dominion by Donald X. Vaccarino.”

A single base set of the card game carries an MSRP of $45, so it’s a good bet the virtual version will be quite a bit less. The card game has spawned five full expansions and several other single promo cards. Rio Grande told Shacknews that all of the expansions and promo cards will be available, but didn’t mention the pricing structure for the expansions. The developer is also being kept under wraps for the time being, but we won’t have to wait much longer.
