Electronic Arts is opening a new studio in Gothenburg. But where is Gothenburg, you ask? Sweden, home of DICE–the studio behind the Battlefield franchise and the Frostbite 2.0 engine.
The new studio will be focused on making “a new generation of games” on the Frostbite engine.
While the official announcement doesn’t offer much else on what the Gothenburg studio is up to, an invitation to the studio’s GDC happy hour says that the “game franchise and genre will be revealed after a candidate is under NDA.” It seems likely that Gothenburg won’t be working on a new game, but rather a sequel to one of EA’s franchises. That doesn’t really narrow down the possibilities, but it’s all we have to go on for now.
